VIDEO Albert Pujols talks “God” and faith at Glenn Beck rally

For St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, appearing at Glenn Beck’s 8/28 rally Saturday was a chance to witness to hundreds of thousands of people what role God has played in his life and to share the work of his Pujols Family Foundation.
“We were right on track, which is about being an example for Jesus Christ and do everything we can to make this country better for Christ,” he said of the rally.

Glen Coffee retires from NFL to pursue ministry

Former Alabama running back Glen Coffee explained his sudden decision to leave pro football and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers today, telling the Press-Register that it was God’s will taking him in another direction.
“Honestly, it was something I wrestled with for a long time,” Coffee said. “I just feel like it’s giving in to His will, man. I feel like I was wasting the organization’s time, as far as the Niners. I was wasting my time. I should have never entered the league, and I’m sorry I had to do it in the middle of camp and leave my teammates like that. But it was something that I felt like I needed to do.”
Coffee, at age 23, is retiring after only one season with the 49ers. He was their second-string running back in camp this preseason behind Frank Gore.
“A lot of people aren’t going to understand and realize because they don’t have the wisdom to understand,” Coffee said. “Their eyes aren’t open like mine are open. True happiness is glorifying God and glorifying Christ. That’s what true happiness is. … And for me, that wasn’t the NFL. That wasn’t where I needed to be.”
The next step, Coffee said, is to return to Tuscaloosa and finish his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama and perhaps then enter graduate school. The Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., native left the Crimson Tide after his junior season to enter the NFL, a decision he’d like to have back for reasons other than last season’s BCS title.
” I left there for the wrong reasons,” Coffee said. “I left because I was done with football. It’s crazy if you think about it. You leave football to go to another level of football, and you think you’re going to be happier. Money or no money, that wasn’t the case.”
Coffee said it’s possible he could now enter the ministry or pursue another religious calling, but “Those doors will open as they open.”
Scottie Pippen prepared to enter NBA Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — With his family and friends looking on, former Bulls star Scottie Pippen sat on a stage at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame with his fellow 2010 inductees Friday morning, talking eloquently about his humbling honor.
“For all these Hall of Famers here today, thank you for paving the road for me to have something to challenge myself every day,” Pippen said at a news conference. “It’s an honor.”
Pippen formally enters the Hall of Fame at a Friday night ceremony at this city’s Symphony Hall. Michael Jordan will serve as his presenter.
Fog disrupts PGA Championship again

Thick fog delayed the start of the second day of the 92nd U.S. PGA Championship at Whistling Straits on Friday, putting the tournament further behind schedule.
More than three hours of golf was lost because of fog on Thursday and 78 players were unable to complete their first rounds because of fading light in the evening.

Tim Tebow compared to John Elway

Tim Tebow might be the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart when the Broncos open training camp Sunday, but he’s been the No. 1 subject in town since the Broncos traded three draft picks for the right to select him No. 25 overall in April’s NFL Draft.
Broncos fans are quickly warming up to Tebow, the former Florida Gators star, who is taking hold of the franchise the way John Elway did in the 1980s.
“I think there’s a connection with Tim Tebow and the way he’s acted, come in and (shown) the type of person he is. He fits perfect into this community,” Elway said. “Everyone is excited about him because they kind of feel like, you know, he’s the next son of Denver. That’s how I felt when I came in.”
Cavaliers Owner Blasts LeBron James in Open Letter to Fans

In a scathing open letter to LeBron James’ onetime diehard fans, the majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers is blasting the NBA superstar, calling his decision to play for the Miami Heat a “bitterly disappointing” blow and a “shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown ‘chosen one.’”
Dan Gilbert also personally guaranteed that the Cavaliers will win an NBA championship before the “self-titled former ‘King’ wins one” with the Heat.
“You can take it to the bank,” reads Gilbert’s letter, which has been posted on the team’s Web page on nba.com. “If you thought we were motivated before [Thursday] to bring the hardware
to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our ‘motivation’ to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.”
Gilbert said James’ decision to leave Cleveland after seven seasons — and without a coveted NBA title — sent the “exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn.”
“The self-declared former ‘King’ will be taking the ‘curse’ with him down south,” Gilbert wrote of Cleveland’s so-called curse against winning sports championships. “And until he does ‘right’ by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.”
Cleveland fans “simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal,” Gilbert’s letter continued.

Phil Simms always has a unique, insightful take when it comes to quarterbacks. The CBS lead analyst didn’t disappoint when it came to weighing in on the Washington Redskins’ acquisition of six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb from NFC East rival Philadelphia.
Simms said the move by arguably one of the game’s most creative play callers in Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan to acquire a strong-armed veteran quarterback to energize his new team was a “tremendous play.”
“I would think they all went into their little conference room at Redskins Park,” Simms said, “shut the door, looked at each other and started jumping up and down, high fiving, jumping around and going ‘Alright! We got him!’
