Glen Coffee retires from NFL to pursue ministry
Aug 19th
Former Alabama running back Glen Coffee explained his sudden decision to leave pro football and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers today, telling the Press-Register that it was God’s will taking him in another direction.
“Honestly, it was something I wrestled with for a long time,” Coffee said. “I just feel like it’s giving in to His will, man. I feel like I was wasting the organization’s time, as far as the Niners. I was wasting my time. I should have never entered the league, and I’m sorry I had to do it in the middle of camp and leave my teammates like that. But it was something that I felt like I needed to do.”
Coffee, at age 23, is retiring after only one season with the 49ers. He was their second-string running back in camp this preseason behind Frank Gore.
“A lot of people aren’t going to understand and realize because they don’t have the wisdom to understand,” Coffee said. “Their eyes aren’t open like mine are open. True happiness is glorifying God and glorifying Christ. That’s what true happiness is. … And for me, that wasn’t the NFL. That wasn’t where I needed to be.”
The next step, Coffee said, is to return to Tuscaloosa and finish his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama and perhaps then enter graduate school. The Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., native left the Crimson Tide after his junior season to enter the NFL, a decision he’d like to have back for reasons other than last season’s BCS title.
” I left there for the wrong reasons,” Coffee said. “I left because I was done with football. It’s crazy if you think about it. You leave football to go to another level of football, and you think you’re going to be happier. Money or no money, that wasn’t the case.”
Coffee said it’s possible he could now enter the ministry or pursue another religious calling, but “Those doors will open as they open.”
Drew Brees: “Coming Back Stronger”
Aug 13th
When a potentially career-ending shoulder injury left quarterback Drew Brees without a team—and facing the daunting task of having to learn to throw a football all over again—coaches around the NFL wondered, Will he ever come back? After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, leaving more than 80 percent of the city underwater, many wondered, Will the city ever come back? And with their stadium transformed into a makeshift refugee camp, forcing the Saints to play their entire 2005 season on the road, people questioned, Will the Saints ever come back?
It takes a special person to turn adversity into success and despair into hope—yet that is exactly what Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees has done—and with the weight of an entire city on his shoulders. Coming Back Stronger is the ultimate comeback story, not only of one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks, but also of a city and a team that many had all but given up on.
Brees’s inspiring message of hope and encouragement proves that with enough faith, determination, and heart, you can overcome any obstacle life throws your way and not only come back, but come back stronger.
Tim Tebow compared to John Elway
Jul 28th
Tim Tebow might be the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart when the Broncos open training camp Sunday, but he’s been the No. 1 subject in town since the Broncos traded three draft picks for the right to select him No. 25 overall in April’s NFL Draft.
Broncos fans are quickly warming up to Tebow, the former Florida Gators star, who is taking hold of the franchise the way John Elway did in the 1980s.
“I think there’s a connection with Tim Tebow and the way he’s acted, come in and (shown) the type of person he is. He fits perfect into this community,” Elway said. “Everyone is excited about him because they kind of feel like, you know, he’s the next son of Denver. That’s how I felt when I came in.”

Who wins in the Donovan McNabb trade: Eagles or Redskins?
Apr 8th
Who comes out on the better end of the stick in the Donovan McNabb trade: the Eagles or the Redskins? Would love to hear your replies!
Phil Simms always has a unique, insightful take when it comes to quarterbacks. The CBS lead analyst didn’t disappoint when it came to weighing in on the Washington Redskins’ acquisition of six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb from NFC East rival Philadelphia.
Simms said the move by arguably one of the game’s most creative play callers in Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan to acquire a strong-armed veteran quarterback to energize his new team was a “tremendous play.”
“I would think they all went into their little conference room at Redskins Park,” Simms said, “shut the door, looked at each other and started jumping up and down, high fiving, jumping around and going ‘Alright! We got him!’

Former Miami Dolphin featured in Christian DVD outreach video
Mar 16th
Abraham Wright was a standout at the University of Colorado. His childhood dream of playing professional football came true when he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 NFL draft.
In this DVD outreach video, Wright talks about the thrill of living out a childhood dream amidst all the temptations and pressures that come with it. He stresses the most important reality was the “dream” that he discovered God had for him, not the dream he had made for himself.
Along with a personal testimony, Wright presents a clear explanation of the Gospel, making this video a great evangelistic tool and Super Bowl outreach resource.

LaDainian Tomlinson released by San Diego Chargers
Feb 23rd
The San Diego Chargers released LaDainian Tomlinson yesterday, ending a brilliant nine-year run in which he became one of the NFL’s greatest running backs.
The move had been expected. Tomlinson, 30, was injured early last season and finished with 730 yards on 223 carries for an average of 3.3 yards per carry, all career lows.
Tomlinson was due to be paid a $2 million roster bonus in early March, which all but guaranteed that he would be cut.
Team president Dean Spanos personally told Tomlinson he would be released.
“I told him that in the 26 years that I’ve been in this business, it was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do,” Spanos said. “I’m not close to a lot of the players, but there’s a handful that I’ve been close with, and he’s probably the closest. It was really difficult to tell him. But out of respect, I wanted to tell him earlier rather than later.”
Tomlinson was not immediately available for comment. He ranks eighth on the all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second (Emmitt Smith had 164), and his 153 total touchdowns rank third (behind Jerry Rice’s 208 and Smith’s 175).
It is rumored that the Lions or Vikings could have interest in him.
